So Yamaha can make a 4 cylinder thousand cc superbike and Ducati a 2 cylinder but there's some rule that says a 3 cylinder can't work?

I'm no engineer I freely admit, but there's something about that I don't buy.

triumph say that you cant make a large capacity 3 cylinder super bike engine, yamaha already have the r1,so no need for another large capacity engine,a 3 cylinder is the hardest to design because what ever firing configeration you use it will have to have a power sapping balancer shaft, and bike history is littered with 3 cylinder failers and flops, and a few have yamaha name on the tank,so with a depressed world market and good machines of all capacities and makes out there already, you have to ask your self is there the need or enough sales out there for it

Not sure about he need or sales but I think it is possible.

I think triumps real issue is its a big gamble and a lot of money for a less than lucrative market. The bikes they've released the last few years have all been much better bets than a litre sports bike.

people have been waiting for triumph to produce a large capacity sports bike, and triumph then say they have no engine that can be developed into a sports bike
