Apparently only American models have the conversion option built in. I'll have a play later. Otherwise yep, I'll be cleaning the pluggy thing up and plugging it back in. Not buying a new one!

Does this mean you have a non-UK bike? I would have thought that models coming to these shores would be set from the factory to run mph without something cobbled in to the wiring with cable ties. The different coloured connectors sounds a smidge fishy and you'd expect it to look "factory" as opposed to "add-on".

Who knows? Everything is fishy on this bike! Could be an import, or replacement clock set, or since it's a Y model, perhaps the first ones only came in KPH and that was fitted by dealers.

UK bikes and, I am told but haven't verified for myself, some US bikes can read both proper numbers and silly foreign ones, official imports for other countries can't - your bike, (or at least your speedo), is non UK.

the rest of it could be from anywhere... or in some cases anything

Doesn't look like the speedo healer I had.

Well I can definitely confirm it's a KPH to MPH converter and if Sid is correct the bike must be an import then. The shed has a curious history.
