Possibly a lack of fields around the crime hot-spots.

To be stolen a lot involves a combination of several factors; sold a lot, desired a lot and/or easy to steal.

Thundercat number one stolen bike?

Errrr... What? They were made for a while it's true - but not for ten years now, I don't get it

Easy locks to pick? Easy to hotwire? Perhaps that's why it's up there. Plus at ten years old they may well be sheds that nobody bothers to add a chain or alarm to making it even easier. Are the parts useful to racers or interchangable with other models??

Still surprised though...

72.5% of all statistics are made up.
Including these I suspect.

This, dirty thieving scrotes love to steal dirt bikes far more than sports bikes.

The Thunderpants at number one is just amazing. I can only assume these stats have been skewed in some way as I simply can't believe it's reperesentative of the UK as a whole. Do Swinton actualy cover dirt bikes and modern sports bikes?

You've got to take these stats with a pinch of salt. MCN had something on ' UK's most crashed bikes' in their Xmas issue using stats provided by Carole Nash. The SV was in the top then for crashes (headed by R1s), while the Thunderace made another random appearance as top of the least crashed list.

I presume they're just crude figures based on the one insurers' record of claims for that make and model, with no adjustment made for the numbers of that make and model in general circulation in the UK.

So if the insurer provides cover for two Thundercats and one is stolen, that shows in their figures as '50% of Thundercats nicked', equally they insure only one Thunderace and it doesn't crash, it gives it a 100% safety record. Or something.
