Wrong . Things are not always black and white on an MOT.

Technically. I believe a HID system requires a projector lense (sv's are reflector) and a self cleaning + levelling unit. Extremely hard and expensive to do on a bike, which is they don't really exist as standard from the manufacturer.

A bike with HID's in shouldn't really pass an MOT for the above reasons, but depending on who tests it, it could do. Some kits are better than others with less glare and a better beam pattern. I suppose it also depends on colour. I can't imagine them passing a 12,000k kit, but should be okay with 4,5 or 6000k generally.

If just ordered a relay kit for my sv. Should increase the brightness but I doubt it will burn the lense. I can't imagine them being that must hotter and loads of people do it to the v strom with no problems.

D40 Nevada R51 pathfinder and T30 X Tail all have the option of hids .
none of them had projector lamps .
They are all E marked brand new factory fitted.
So a projector is not a must .
ps
The leds used on leaf look as white as the usual hid s but must be sub the lumens as they don't have washes.

Not ilegal my bikes had 2 mots and its gone thro both times no problem, the only thing you have to do is when you install the HIDs you may have to install a projector lens also cause without the projector the HID pattern is thrown up onto the offside and there for blinding drivers the projector lenses will cure this tho.

Aye they like it allot more if the beam is more focused and less over spray into the oncoming lanes, it also makes it better for you to see and leaves a nice crisp clear line ware the beam is cut off, but as i said ive never had any issues so far, you could try sticking the HIDs just straight in and see how you get on the worst thatl happen is youl fail and have to take them out and put halogen bulbs in but i think youl be fine. give it ago ive never had any issues and no flashes either people usally flassh me for my spot lights haha

It completely baffles me why people fit aftermarket non legal exhausts, smaller number plates and HID lighting when they know it is going to be problematic at MOT time.

If you are going to run/use these types of equipment keep the original fittings and swop them back for the MOT rather than risk a fail and retest.

I know we consider louder exhausts and better lighting safer but unfortunately that is not how the law sees it.
It takes me about 10 mins to change headlight bulbs and exhaust on my bike and another 10 mins to put the "Preferred" bits back on
