that's it i have had enough of these pieces of shizz. Avon should have left well alone as the new ultras are indeed ultra crapppppp. 4k out a front and it cupped again and the back is almost gone at 4k. don't know how rictus gets such mega millage out of his but it must be fairy dust before each ride.
3 pairs of ultras and 3 pairs toooo much in my book. yes i'm hard on my tyres but i was getting more/same form the old storms which gripped better. by by avon. |

funnily enough I'll need a new front on the S4 before the end of the month, it'll be another Storm 2, as the last done just over 10k, in the last couple of months I've also replaced both on the pegaso the front having done 15k and the rear just over 11k, admittedly the Pegaso makes power more gently but that's still pretty impressive in my book.
I agree you can feel the edge between the two compounds, but it's obvious and easy to predict, I've never had an issue with grip and given my mileage they still remain the best value for money mile on mile. Cheers Mark

RS2's I think, the latest ones anyway. Seem better than the Avons in the cold/wet and last longer than the new Storms, more like the old ones

well that's a PR2 on the front so i'll see how that goes. about another 1k left on the rear and will be swapping out for a PR2 when i needs done.
5994 miles on the front Avon and one side was badly cupped .68mm one side 1.86mm other. yes i had the steering alignment checked at the MOT and was spot on. it's strange how the original storms lasted 9k on the front but the new ones are crap and cup really badly, oohhh and i'm not the only one who has had this happen. |

Point of note, I think they made the storm st, then the storm st2 ... THEN the storm st2 ultra (gah!)
Quote:
I actually prefer the new storm fronts as I think it's a bit steeper profile than old uns. Though they have always worn cupped for me, never in 4k though. I have never got mega mega miles out of them really, depends a lot on suspension. The penske rear added about 3k (from average 5 to ![]() They are probably a bit old hat now but I'll take something that works over going mad to buy "this seasons colours" any day! Sports rubber is for mugs. You want tyres that are crap in the wet and don't last? Buy race scrub supercorsas for £40 a pair then!

thing is the PR2's are cheaper than the storms well up here they are. just had the front done for £98 all in (loose wheel) and i seem to remember the geezer saying that the rear is £120 all in (loose wheel)
i was never happy with the new storms and always found them a bit washy in the wet. ok so they never let go but they had the constant feeling that they were about to, where the originals were just amazing. the storms are very very good when fresh but start to go down hill after that. |

Yeah PR2s are competitive down here too and are a decent tyre.
