So,
I test rode GSR750 - didn't like it. GSXR750 and GSXR600 - both fantastic bikes. I was surprised how well it fitted me.
Lastly for test ride was SV650. After riding above bikes my expectations were high. Surprisingly SV pulled away nice but I the brakes were on the soft side compare to BREMBO.
I felt like at home on SV and I want one!
Yes the GXSR has more power and SHOWA shocks but it costs too much for me. And I would not be using it to its fullest.
So I will be looking for SV that is fully faired with aftermarket exhaust. Aand upgraded suspension, although if it will come with standard one I am sure that I will be fine.

Wahoo! Glad to hear it!

And to answer the other point which I missed, soft panniers and tank bag work well, that's what I use when I need to take luggage. Seems less awkward than hard luggage.

Now that I am looking around for SV650, i was wondering what is a reasonable milage for one. For example 2007 with 25k miles is that ok? Will it do much more?

Is it better to go for age of the bike or the low mileage?

Miles shouldn't worry you, as long as they are backed by history and receipts. My k4 is at about 29 and is fine. I know of someone who is over 50k and I'm sure there are many with much higher mileage.

Thanks Tomor. That is what I was thinking too. I think that i saw somewhere post that Japanese engines can easily cover 100k+ providing regular oil, air filter and spark plugs changes.

Hmmm getting outside my knowledge base I'm afraid, I guess it would be the same as anything else really, general condition, how well it's been looked after, regular services etc. only ever bought 2 bikes and one was brand new.

I know the forks are something to check to see if there are sign of pitting or leakage, guess the leaking goes for other areas too.

Not sure how the engines fair with lots if miles, hopefully someone with more on theirs can help in that area. Generally though I think they are quite robust as long as they have been looked after, plenty of curvys knocking about so don't think age is a huge issue.

Hope you find one that fits the bill!

I vaguely remember reading here somewhere about this, think they also changed the rear sub frame or something. Slight change to the geometry but I'm afraid I cannot recall what iteration this was.

Thanks. I have found few things online now. I am looking on a few sv's now. '08 and '03. Both with roughly the same mileage 25k but the '03 has lots of extras: upgraded suspension, brake lines, hugger, fender and few other bits. Both at similar price. So my thinking is which one is better value?
'08 that is younger and with less intervention or the oldie with extras?
