Can't say BT are any better, our box won't play BBC4 Player stuff now. We get 10 minutes into a programme and it shuts down and reboots, then starts the progamme again. That's another conversation I need to have with someone in India.

Technical Fault 7 is a disk read or write error. It sounds like you hard disk is faulty. If you're out of warranty it may be possible to open the box and replace the hard disk. I haven't tried this, so google for instructions. Obviously, you'll lose the recordings on your existing disk.

Yeah, have read similar online today. I think I'm probably too heavy handed to be playing around with electronics though

A colleague has got an open one on his desk. It looks pretty simple, just a few screws and a couple of connectors to the disk. You could always get your girlfriend to do it, if she's less heavy handed than you

Ha, funnily enough she used to work on the production line for Thompson years ago so she should have some idea what she's doing

If your HDD is fubarred, then upgrading the HDD to a larger one isn't that difficult, depending on the make of the box.
Plus you can increase the size of the HDD.

Like this one, which includes instructions on how to do it, or send them the box to do it for you.

Upgrade to Hd and they will send you a new box, alternatively get a second hand box off eBay for about £30.

I gave my old sky plus box away when I upgraded to HD.

Or cancel the sky then take it out again and pay the install charge and you'll get a new box.

Call up and say ur leaving. My box did a similar thing. I rang and said I was going to Virgin. Gave me a new box FOC.

Worth reading up on European legislation as under this comsumer electronic equipment is covered for 2 years regardless.

EDIT: EC Directive 1999/44/EC

Not quite as clear cut as that, it's 2 years to complain, not that the goods must LAST that long. But also, the UK's is different.

(I know next to nothing, I just remembered seeing that quoted in a tweet the other day)
