Wouldn't say either was a bad choice but I think the micras are simpler and a bit cheaper to fix.

You see all the takeaway drivers using them for a reason, OTOH they're not good on the motorway.

Default Car for Daughter

I have a 1.4 lupo and the 1.0 is alot cheaper . Im 20 with 4 months driving since passed and insurance for me is £1450 fully comp . A 1.0 was £900 but i didnt want a slowish car. Lupos are good car. I used confused and admiral came top. Dont go with companys that do the box crap its a scam, my mate has to do all the speed limits and cornering and braking to get cheap insurance he does all this and it is higher than stated monthly . And also its cheaper to pay insurance in one . They wanted £3000 if i payed monthly or £1450 in full payment .

Default Car for Daughter

Also another pointer, 5 door not 3 door. Generally rated as a lower risk.

Same goes for non chav type boy racer cars. Fiesta's, saxo's Pugs etc that are common boy w***er cars are usually rated as a higher risk too.

When I had a car looked at fiestas saxo's etc all second hand and was cheaper to insure a brand new Citroen c1, which is actually a pretty good little car, very economical if you can drive sensibly and avoid going over 80 on a motorway.

Hope that helps.

I've driven a few Ford Kas and they are surprisingly good fun.

Lupos are good as well but the SEAT Arosa is the same car and can be had for less.

As for insurance don't think just because something is small it's going to be cheaper to insure mid size cars with small engines can be cheaper. Try an non turbo diesel Peugeot 306, that's the cheapest to insure car I've ever owned.

Quick postscript, we bought a rather nice little dark red Ka for daughter during the week. Turned out to be a luxury 2002 model which came with air con, leather seats and alloys. Why didn't my first car have things like this So thanks for all the suggestions.

She is chuffed and I am now a nervous wreck as we go out practising driving in the evenings.
