Fan kicking in is a fairly regular occurrence for me, but I have the lower fairings fitted and I think that doesn't help things. Also ride across London fairly regularly which is, as I'm sure you can imagine, not exactly free flowing traffic.

yeah i dont get much traffic really and i usually know where traffic will be so i avoid it

The fan kicks in a 104 or so usually do as long as you are under that, or at that and the fan is going you should be fine.

From memory and without looking, I think the owners manual states that you should start to panic when the temp reaches 120 degrees, although I would be a little inclined to start to panic before it got that high.

back in 2005 when i was a courier using my SV, the temp got up to 110c - the fan wasnt kicking in because the end of a biro had caught in the blades!
no idea how long that situation had been occurring but when i removed the biro cap, the fan worked and no damage had happened, as far as i know!!!! |

Fan on my 2006 kicked in at 106, but it only ever got that hot in mid summer traffic - keep riding in the countryside and you'll be fine
