Yeah I agree, a lot of people (the other half included) think I'm weird for watching crashes, but as you say, it's education and nice to see what can go wrong and how to avoid it!

Speaking of which, check this out:

Don't read any of the comments etc - just start watching it and think where you would have started braking or preparing to stop/swerve...

Ouch. Looked nasty, I was surprised at how well the triumph came off from it though.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing but I like to think I'd have slowed down earlier.

But the few near misses I still have these days are when I'm concentrating on one potential hazard eg someone who looks like they're going to pull out on me, and miss another one as a result, eg oncoming car swerving into my lane to go round a cyclist.

As well as the bike looking pretty unscathed, the rider had no serious injuries according to another one of his vids! Prob helped that the front of the lorry was at an angle so the impact was deflected a bit.

I doubt many people would avoid that. The lorry on the right looks like it has completely stopped, waiting for the bike to pass. The rider did well to get as far left as he did

I can't even see how not jabbering on about a steak would have helped enough. Fair to say his mind wasn't on the road but even so I think collision was scheduled.

Thats really nasty.

I know its easy to say, but i to would of liked to think id of backed off earlier.

I was quite expecting the red truck to pull out though at first. Maybe that great big bright red thing took his eye off the less visible black one

I too would have backed off earlier but I`m a fairly nervous/defensive rider, it`s too easy to say what we would or wouldnt have done.

One thing for sure the HGV driver was a plank and as stated we should all learn from it.

Can I just point out that this was the original vid the title of the post refers to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJkzDsYjUes

Don't want people thinking I find someone smacking into the front of a HGV 'funny'!
