3 bikes?
Yep I'd go for the trailer if you have a vehicle that can tow it .

It's easier to load them than struggling in a van, although you can't go quite as quick

LWB high top should be sufficient assuming you have a long enough ramp.

No vehicle with a tow bar though. At the moment though it's actually looking like we're going to scrap the idea of going to AR. Chris is without a licence still so we can't share the driving, and hiring a van is working out so expensive that it's probably more sensible for him just to save his cash for ride outs all summer rather than blow the lot on £400 van hire for one day via a 350 mile round trip in a van.

it's only 300 miles so why not ride up. will take at an easy pace (taking the scenic route) 7-8 hours.

You can't pack Chris in the top box Bilbo. He'll eat all the cakes

Chris will almost certainly have a licence by the time the AR rolls around. There's a whole month left.

+1 isn't the getting to a biking event part of the fun?

Well it can be, but 300 miles on a Friday after work is still a ask.
Finger crossed it all works out and they can attend.
You could just borrow a car with a bar. Just see if you have the magic, "the policy holder may also drive another vehicle not owned by them ".
