Default Which engine oil?

Which oil? Depends what bike we're discussing.

buy which ever motorbike specific oil fits your pocket or you like the look of, its OIL it's not some magical liquid that suddenly transforms the inner workings of your engine no matter how much garbage magazines and adverts tell you.

change your oil and filter every 3500 miles.

I'm doing about 1k a month. Do I still need to do it quite so regularly? It's becoming quite costly.

yes. bikes chew oil to bits so they go out of grade quicker not to mention all the acids that contaminate it due to the combustion process.

your bike your money but if you slack on maintenance then it will cost you more in the long run. this is why i tell people not to buy tat but use the money to keep the bike roadworthy when funds allow then buy tat but maintenance comes first.
