The Honda CB500 (the new one) is a nice ride, albeit a bit more basic than the SV. Power delivery is smooth and the little twin engine does have (and unusually for a Honda) some soul to it.
The gear box though is typically awful and you will need good boots so that you can kick it through the gears and not hurt your toes! I rode one on a tour a while ago and was mightily impressed for the most part. It has day long comfort and a reasonably large seat. It is a squeeze though if you are regularly carrying a pillion.
