Try methyl ethyl ketone or "MEK"
It's a rather potent solvent for degreasing mainly, but it does a number on paintwork too. Sent via the medium of interpretive dance. Last edited by Matt-EUC; 19-08-14 at 09:18 AM. |

We are of course assuming (and hoping) Winder is still alive to tell us how he got on...

Yeah. I'm still here. Job was a nightmare. The chemical is like a wallpaper paste but the sort that wants to corrode your alveoli. I laid down decorating sheets and hung the frame and forks up before starting so this made the clean up pretty easy.
Basically slap the stuff on thick, wait 15 minutes and take off with wire wool and repeat, repeat, repeat. Pain is the backside getting into the little angles and things and you sweat your nads off in the face mask and rubber mitts. Out of the 5 litre drum I have about 4.5 litres left so if you want it then you can have it as I won't be doing that ever again. The chemical itself works a treat at bubbling off the paint and lacquer and it 1,000,000,000 times more effective than the all new health and safety friendly nitro mors. I still had to give it about 5 or 6 coatings and LOADS of elbow grease to get the fiddly areas paint free.

Nice one Winder, I love a good follow up
![]() I have always used it outside and used a power washer to flip off the old paint, rather than using wire wool.. Glad you got it all off eventually ![]() |
