tis weird I kinda agree with both of you about the A832. It's got a few good sections but unless you're going silly fast it's average, but once you're past Kinlochewe going west I think it's a great road.

only if you want to ride throttle to the stop and not have to think about corners, if the A832 road had 2 lanes either side it would be called a motorway.... boring...

turning left at Helmsdale takes you to the junction past Dounreay where the real fun starts on the top road and you get to ride the empty single tracker to get there. i'll leave the A9 to the camper vans and caravans with the George & Mildred occupants.

guess we have different views of whats fun

Defo doing the round Scotland trip this year, just working out if it will be after GM/Applecross or a different trip altogether. Also whether to stay in beds or tenting, hmmm...

there is nowt like a roof and a bed.. its Scotland its going to rain. stuff carting all that extra camping shizz and never mind the nonsense of putting the tent up when you get there knackered and wet and taking it down before you even start the day in the wet.

YOUTH HOSTELS cheep and cheerful and you even get to talk to other people. only problem with hostels is you have to book them NOW.

I do prefer the thought of beds and carrying less stuff but like you say its the booking early is the killer. I wanna decide a few days before I go which is why I would probably just chuck the tent on aas insurance and pray for a space when I got there.

Hostels work out cheaper than camping - cos the midge's eat you alive - go into pub - spend more money !!!!
