Health and safety ain't all bad, especially if it helps in desperate situations where braking really hard in less than ideal road conditions does not require highly tuned braking technique with ABS. I have had ABS on AL7 cut in a couple of times just after I had the bike ( before I had chance to fit LED headlight bulb and extra DRL lights ), once approaching a junction and vehicle looked set to pull out in front of me and there was banding in the road from repairs, road was damp and ABS saved front wheel from skidding. Another was on gravel in road, again near a junction where a car started to pull out across my path and then stopped - phew....

Since I have fitted the extra lighting nobody has even looked like cutting out on me, and hopefully I am more visible in the mirrors of vehicles I am following or about to overtake.

Just remove a sensor/reading plate and crack on. Brakes should work as normal, and the ABS pump won't kick in.

I thought in theory a human could do better than ABS because the latter pulses the brakes off so momentarily losing braking force while a riding god can maintain a constant pressure on the point of locking the wheel. At least thats what I do....

You do that all the time, even in an emergency when the only aim is to stop as quickly as possible while keeping the bike shiny side up ? ? ? The ABS pump supplies pressure to braking system and its aim is to keep the wheels on the right side of skidding - which is where tyres have less grip anyway ( static vs sliding friction ).

Looks like I've opened a can of worms here.... .

Essentially the bike is being prepped for track days, with limited road use. So thanks to all you guys with the input on disabling the abs and I appreciate that some of you guys/girls would prefer the "safety" aspect of abs for road use... .

Anyway, next problem, the old battery looks like it's had it... . Is there a smaller lightweight jobbie that anyone can recommend?

Cheers

My SK1 has a Shido LTZ14S LiFePO4 type battery fitted with a MOSFET reg/rec, (FH012 or similar), works absolutely fine.
For track you could get away with a significantly smaller capacity Shido, as long as it can deliver enough current to start the bike. I would guess something like an LTX9 would be fine, 180A cranking should do the job comfortably. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/mot...nt_prod/248942
It's 0.7kg against around 4kg for a typical 10Ah lead-acid battery, cheapest weight saving you'll find apart from having a good crapp before getting on the bike.
