Default New Winter Ride

Hello
Well its 3 years since I sold my SV650 and I never thought I would be signing up with the SV650 org again, but here I am and its nice to see my old bike is still in the picture gallery. Well after bending my AN400 before Christmas and they wrote it off was forced to rething my wheels earlier than anticipated. I found a 2004 prereg SV650 in my dealers for £3500, well I fancied the DL650 but at £1200 more I gave in and I get the SV next week. I thought the DL would give more protection from the cold, I ride all year and only snow keeps me off the road, but after seeing all the customised SV's I thought the DL will never look as good and at that price.
Which brings me to all these people who are afraid to go out in the winter, many of this winters days have been as warm as the summer, the worst enemy out there is the salt and with some preparation and a bit of a hose down thats not a problem either. I rode a couple of years ago through the Alps in May and although it was sunny I had to ride with my winter gear to keep warm. If you chose the right gear you can ride in any weather and enjoy it. If its dry leathers can be as warm as man made fabrics just put a suitable base layer on , preferably one of the wicking breathable materials and keep out the draughts. Ride with care and keep the cornering down to a suitable speed and you will enjoy the winter, some of my best rides were in appalling weather, wrap up and go enjoy yourself. No doubt I will be picking brains as to what is the best kit for the SV in the near future I can feel a pleasant summer ahead.

It's got to be good for your skills I reckon to ride the rough stuff, better confidence in you and your bike for when it's warm and dry
last time i rode on a warm sunny day it was on a gilera dna 50cc scooter due to broken wrist all this summer....i can't wait

The only thing that's annoyed me this winter is the huge amount of rain when I needed to make a long jouney.
Rain isn't all that bad, but spending 6 hours on a motorway in the pouring rain isn't fun, even with decent gear.
