454697819, i hear what you're saying but it really doesn't take much or cost much to protect yourself a little better than just a "slightly thicker jacket"

we're not out to victimise young riders, just try and make them aware.

We already have a campaign aimed at the sports bike riders (not about clothing, just road safety) at shinysideup.co.uk and have collected some quite amazing facts and figures but with scooter riding becoming ever more popular we need to address this area.

Although scooter riders don't have as many serious or fatal injuries in comparison to Sports bikes, their injuries are considered bad all the same all down to poor protective equipment.

most scooter rider injuries end up going to burns units because of the type of injury that usually occcurs.

Im in Northampton tomorrow. Mate should have pics of my visor from my accident. Cant host so can only email so can sort that out by pm if you want them.

One look at the state of it with a "imagine that would have been your face" would be enough to impact on most people what a 20 mph off does and what the result would have been if Id been in an open face helmet...

I'm sorry to admit that i am an aprilia 125 owner (Tuono not RS though) and if i am just going to work which is only ten minutes away i sometimes only wear my jeans and trainers.

slap wrist 4 me !

I do own some good aplpinestars boots but not any protective trousers !

slap the other wrist !

The worse thing is i'm not 16,17 or 18 .............. i've just turned 25 !

I'm in work this morning and as there is a Hein Gericke shop literally 2 minutes walk away (and another shop that i have heard nothing but bad things about) i will go in at lunch and get myself some protective trousers.

I might have some pics of a cycling smash I was in - not scooter or bike related I know, but at 40 mph a head butt to the tarmac is a head butt to the tarmac.

Smashed the living daylights out of my face, arms and back - couldn't eat for 2 weeks, but did meet a very nice lady plastic surgeon.

Pleased, to see u can understand where i am cioming from, i do understand about the cost of gear, i always wear full proctective clothing, and always will!

I have to say, i was gonna post a query about are we putting ourselves at risk if we dont all wear super dooper pricy gear, and i was worried that what i have wont do the job in a nasty accident!

But i understand, that if you can get sum ione into the menatality of riding in the proper stuff, it should stick to them for life!!

hope the campagin goes well.

All the best

Alex

There are two sayings which I like to live by..."everything in moderation" and "theres a time and a place..."

I live in Battersea, and in summer on those really really hot days, I enjoy going for a quick blast over Chelsea bridge, up to the Kings Rd, have a coffee in some snooty place, watch the world go by, treat myself to some new shoes and go home... I would probably have on my blue jeans, alpine stars (boots), gloves, helmet, and a ..........t shirt. I rarely get to go over 30 except when I get to the bridge, if there is no traffic and all is clear I have an nice little blast over to the other side... I filter along the Kings Rd (checkin the chicks) and back over the bridge home again...There are cyclists who wear skin tight lycra and a foam thing on their heads, but no one bats an eyelid.....So at the end of the day..you makes your choices.....just because I will do this every now and then, doesn't mean that I would go for a back lane blast with my mates wearing the same.....

Anyway, thinking of getting one of those knox protector vests for the summer, that one can just throw over... leaving the jacket and bike jeans for the outrides...
