Hi there, glad your happy with your bike, and i think the advice given on here so far should remedy the squeaks. But i couldnt help but pick up on what you said above.

Not sure how long you've been riding for, but incase you didnt know here are some tips, hope you dont feel im talking out of turn or anything, just some friendly pointers from one biker to another...

The rear brake only provides something like 25% of your stopping power, the front 75%, use the front more when your stopping, it will be more effective.

Also at slower speeds its adviseable not to use the front, just use the rear (filtering in traffic etc) it makes for a smoother ride, and is far safer - i knw this as i once lost the front on some wet cobbles because i ever so gently applied front brake at very slow speed. It hurt a lot, i looked a **** and cost me a new indicator and rear brake pedal.

Hope this helps in making your riding smoother and safer...

Hi Guys.

I rebuild my back brake because I thought it wasn't braking enough. Put it all together, cleaned it up with disc brake cleaner, noticed that it was squeeking, took the caliber off the disc, applied copper grease to the BACK of the pads on both sides, and but it back together.

But, it is still squeeking. I have "only" done 6 x 6 miles, since the rebuild (commuting), but I have used the back brake more often than usual to experiment with the squeeking.

It seems to me that the it only happens when I am just about to go to a halt.. 2-3 mph, and may only be when the discs are cold.

I have attached a picture, to show how I have smeared the back side of the pads.

One thing i noticed, when I mounted the brake caliber was that I could not get the bolts so far in that there was no movement in the caliber. It could still move a little. When I had ridden the bike around the yard, it was as if it had settled in place, and I couldn't move it by hand anymore. But is it supposed to have been loose like that before the first ride?
