Fitting R&Gs - Engine Bolt Woes **Fixed - with Pics**

but debating the £70..I know they will save hundreds if I have another off.!! but its kinda like buying sumfin u hope u never need to use..and if i gotta sspend another 30-40 nuggets on fitting them or if i take off the thread on my frame main bolt..mmmmmmmmmmmm

will do - latest result, one way or the other, will be next Thursday (when it's booked in at the mechanics).

I'll have another go this weekend if I can get the tools I need and will post pics afterwards.

BTW, mine were £84 direct from R&Gs website (inc. postage + VAT)

The new R&G sliders look pretty much like the Suzuki ones once fitted. Instead of the crappy fairing bracket Suzuki use, the R&G replaces this bracket with another one which spans across 2 engine bolts. One of these bolts goes all the way through the engine. Therefore the bracket is hidden by the fairing lowerer and is much tougher (I hope)

does it not get in the way of yer knees there on a curvy?

The new ones are specifically designed not to cause problems with the fairings. And I've never banged a knee on mine...

Dunno if it helps but on my SV1K I have the R&G ones that sit outside of the fairing. They look a little dorky because they give the impression of sticking out a long way due to the fact they have to clear the fairing plus a few more inches. I did keep hitting my knees on them at first (I have short legs too) but after a while kind of got used to where they were and don't do that too often now.

Would have posted this sooner but the site was down for me all weekend.

Anyway, bought a breaker bar from Halfords on Friday and that was sufficient to loosen the engine bolt - so we have success! The R&Gs are now fully fitted and I am considering myself a mechanical god!

For those who want to see piccies of the "new" R&Gs for the curvy that do not require cutting the fairing - here you go......

I'm quite tall (6'3") but they just about fit without interfearing with my knees.

HOWEVER, I realised upon fitting that the bolt provided for the upper bracket attachment (not the main engine bolt) on the off-side was way too long for the hole left by the original bolt. I called R&G and they said they had a bad batch of bolts and that they would send a new one through to me asap. In the meantime, I've used the original bolt from the nearside (the 2 are of differing lengths, the nearside one being longer) which seems to work! Hope this is clear!

Anyway, before you start to install them, ensure that the shortest bolt is about 10cm in length. otherwise, you might get most of the way through and then not be able to complete the job!

me neighbour has a torque wrench and breaker bar so maybe I can borrow those off him for the price of a pint!

Great timing, mine turned up this morning. Did you have to drop the lowers off? I can imagine this being the biggest pain in the a*se?
