Bennetts are simply a broker. It is in their interest to get you to pay as much as possible. I wont be going back to them as their prices stink.

In saying that when they convieniently forgot my ncb last year as I had been in a non fauly accident the girl did say she would check with the underwriters my eligablity and phone me back. half an hour later she phone back reducing my policy by £150.

Think it will be eBike for me this time as they are a lot cheaper, have multibike and multi rider policy and also allow you to have month by month cover which means you only have to buy for the time you are riding and not winter storing etc.

I think it depends who you get on the phone. One word of advice is don't let the "hire team" - notably the guy who runs it, called Patrick, fob you off about getting a hire bike... just say you have to have one or they'll muck you about. Whatever they say, repeat after me... "no, it's not possible to do anything else, I need a hire bike". At least Bennetts didn't deny me a hire bike when I got knocked off.

Recently had my SV K1 stolen from work and found Bennetts to be a nightmare. Not only did I have to deal with some stroppy rude woman on the claims line, but they also stuffed up the insurance on my replacement VFR. To top it all it took 6 weeks for them to refund the payment that they wrongly debited from my account for renewal of the policy on the stolen SV (after I had reported the theft). On the other side the actual insurer, Equity Red Star, were brilliant and payed out a very acceptable amount within 4 weeks of the theft.

It's very interesting (or should that be worrying?) to see the variation with the same insurers and companies here.

Equity Red star gave me an appallingly low figure for the bike and were very difficult to deal with when it came to getting more. Since the first cheque, they sent another one, claiming their engineer had "reviewed" things, then after more complaint they sent more money and it's still too low... though it goes to show that if you push them then they'll offer more.

Bennetts were very helpful and supportive when I got knocked off last year. Carole Nash were very unhelpful when I got knocked off this year...

The type of policy seems to matter - comp policies seem to cause more problems than 3pft ones when you have to claim (at least they have for me, and I won't be taking out comp again for the foreseeable future) and also how likely the insurer feels that you may be at fault. With bennetts it was blatantly obvious that the other guy was at fault, with Carole Nash it's been a little more cloudy as the guy who hit me didn't know what had happened and I was knocked unconscious so it's down to the witnesses...

If the insurer believes that you may be at fault and so present a greater risk/cost to them then they may well become more difficult, which is why I believe I've had such a tough time with Nash and Equity Red Star over this last accident (comp and they weren't sure how much of it was my fault) vs Bennetts (3pft and extremely likely that I was innocent).

Still, Nash and ERS handled it badly and rudely... with a comp policy even if it was 100% my fault, that doesn't entitle me to being treated like ****.
