I had to empty mine recently for a respray.

My method was

Make a funnel out of glossy cardboard (eliminate the risk of a static electric spark)

Securely mount the funnel over a jerry can - the petrol will come out of the tank with some force and will splash everywhere if the funnel is not secure

Remove the tank from the bike

Open the filler cap

Tip out most of the fuel into the can - through the funnel would be good!

Shake it about a bit to get as much out as possible

Close the filler and turn the tank upside down

Remove the fuel pump

shake some more petrol out through the fuel pump hole.

There will be some petrol that you cannot get out like this.

Remove the filler cap

I left my tank under a carport, on its side, where the wind could eveporate off the remainder before starting work on it.

I am now left with about half a jerry can of petrol that is only fit for the lawn mower

Good Luck,

Keep safe

Evening all.
Shoving a large ball of lint free cloth through the pump aperture and giving the tank a good shake around will absorb almost all of the excess which wont drain out.
I always finish by giving it a good blow out (OOH MATRON!!) with my airline, but then again I'm a flash git with a fully equipped workshop .

Cheers.

To drain the tank nice and slow- well, very slow- disconnect the hose from the fuel pump (between tap and pump). Stick the hose into a bucket/fuel can/whatever. Now apply a vacuum to the tap and it'll open, and drain. You can get practically the whole lot out this way without ever pouring petrol over your feet. But it's really slow.

Not with an FI bike you can't.

OK.

My lips are sealed, forthwith.

With forth, sealed are my lips.

Not another peep from me, nada.

Nuffink.

Rien.

Diddly.

Silence from the Squiddy corner.

Mouse like am I.

Shhhhh!

I shall trouble your shell likes no more.

From me - all is held fast.

Quiet like.

Yeah right

Did anyone hear something there? It sounded like someone talking... Nah, must have just been the wind.
