All the major brands have their own refinaries, and supply their own filling stations, to that end, there can be differences between brands.
Also they will sell to supermarkets, independants etc.
Sainsburys / Asda / Morrisons do (or did ) have a contract with Texaco.

Sitting in the room with me is one of BP's senior geologists - who assures me that when you buy BP petrol it has been processed by their own refinery, the majority sourced from their own oilfields.

Yep, Ford valve sticking rings a bell. Simple answer is don't get a Ford...

Indeed, the supermarkets will get their stuff from the big boys, perhaps slightly different blends or whatever, but all much of a muchness really. As for additives, I presume some buy their fuel with them in already or specify what they want in it. I would be pretty surprised if anyone had a sort of post-mix additive system on the forecourt, where on earth did you read that?

Mixing at stations definately happens in the US, some companies have a single tank with additives added literally as you pour it... Sometimes from the same hose too. Not relavent at all of course, but possibly interesting
