Cheers guys, I'm sat here all fidgety-like, 'cos I want it now, not in a few days time!

I was quite surprised to find how different the Gixxer and the Kwak were.
There was an older ZX7R there too (same age as the GSXR) and the two were exactly the same price to add to my insurance policy, so I test rode them both, with the idea that I'd like one more than the other!

The GSXR was an absolute bonkers machine which I couldn't get to hit the red line! (New rear tyre & cold, slippery day though) It's red line was at 16,000 rpm and no matter how far I twisted the throttle, it just wouldn't! It was a good handling bike but the engine and gearbox were the starlets there - brakes were impressive too (same calipers and discs as the kwak but semed more powerful!), accelerated like the proverbial from a shovel and just didn't stop. Not a lot low down though - constantly up & down through the box round town or revving the hell out of it and looking like a monkey! It was also very tiny with very high pegs and although it felt more comfortable for me at a standstill, when moving I was a little cramped & couldn't really move around much.

The ZX7 was noticeably more nimble on it's feet - have to be more careful with what you do movement-wise, as it will react!
Far more growling sound from the engine than the gixxer. Didn't accelerate quite as fast as the gixxer, nor rev anywhere near as far - red line's at something around 12,000 rpm, iirc but it was far more torquey at low revs, pulling well from just over idle - could stick it in second around town and leave it there unlike the gixxer. Managed to nudge the rev limiter in third on a nice (private!) road and it just lapped it up - the bike seemed to enjoy being pushed (the little I did on a bike that wasn't mine!) where the gixxer just did it with no real passion - it was very good and just did exactly what it was told but the ZX7 for me had a little more passion and character!
Did exactly the same test route on both bikes - about 25 miles covering most road types and the ZX7 was better on some bumps and the gixxer was betteron others! The ZX7 was more comfortable for me when moving (but worse at a standstill!) and I was very quickly throwing myself around the bike - even with 2 new BT014s on it and the poor weather! The ground clearance kinda 'felt' better on the ZX7 and the front end really is as good as legend states! Went round one roundabout on the route and clearly pushed further than the new front tyre was ready for - front started to tuck (and it happened fast!) but I pulled it out of that in an instant and it didn't even shock or surprise me it's so stable & planted.

When I got back from each test ride, I was very impressed - I was giggling like a little kid when I got back from riding the GSXR and after the ZX7 I had a big grin on my face but was having difficulty deciding which one I liked most - I was stood out in the bloomin' freezing cold looking at both of them and thinking hard about it for about 45 minutes!

Clearly, the ZX7 won - it somehow just 'spoke to me' a little more and was more useful for everyday use as well as being a good handling missile for track use... I also felt like I would be less likely to lose my licence on the ZX7 as it doesn't demand that you rev the bits off it all the time. It was also newer and in marginally better nick than the gixxer (although it has more miles on the clock!) due to being newer. They were both up for the same money too!

If anyone's looking at either of these bikes, I very much doubt that you'll be disappointed with them - they are both sublime machines!

The ZX7 is a wondeful bike, you're gonna enjoy it, lots.

Glad to see you've come to your senses at last and bought a motorcycle instead.

No that was just tongue-in-cheek as Sid Squid absolutely loves Triumphs, can't get enough of them. In fact there was a rumour going round that he might just chop in his ZX6 for the new 675...

Hmmm... Good job I know Emperor Squid enough to realise he was taking the mick!

If he does get a 675 I shall be more than a little jealous! I really want one and figure I may have been able to afford it IF: I sold the Trumpet, didn't finish my surround system and didn't buy the Kwak!

So, I decided 2 bikes is better than one!!!
