I'd imagine the car is fine if you're pulled over. If you get a producer though, I cant imagine for one second they'll let you get away without the paper section, as it has your endorsements on it.

They're well within their rights to ask for it, but usually, if you show them the photocard one at the roadside, they don't ask you to produce. If I was being asked to produce the docs down the station, I'd definately take both parts.

It says at the top of the paper part :-

The photocard and paper counterpart together make up the complete driving licence and should be kept together. Both must be produced when required.

As above, even when i sat my silly hazard perception test thing they insisted on seeing both bits.

Joke was the website said to only bring some form of photo ID, so i took my photo DL. And they turned me away. I had to pay another fee and everything just because they were being so strict.
Worst part was that when i got home and went onto the site to print off the page that said it, the site was down for maintainance and when it was back up it was all diffrent.
Gits!!

Yep need both parts at the plod station. They want to see the points etc, so they can fill out the form correctly.

In the olden days ( I'm nearly as old as El Boc, we could even be contemporaries) PC Plod had to ask if you would take your licence out of its transparent folder, simply because he hadn't the right to do so. That was the only way he could get to see if there were points on the door ( so to speak).

I've still got my first licence somewhere - the little red book ( and I'm not talking Chairman Mao)

Lucky for me I still have that type of licence, and yes I have refused to take it out the wallet...but then again any points I had are long gone..I just like to see the reaction.

I only go that route though if I've a few hours to spare as PC Plod always then wants to do a full inspection.
