Hmm, if you were of an argumentative frame of mind and you had witnesses, you'd probably have a good case to recover some of the cost of hte damage as well. Replacing hte bung is sort of a least-possible-acceptable option IMO. But still better than some would do.

Whatever bungs you have remember that they are intended to break if they should experience a given stress during an accident, it may have been low speed but if the bung caught in a pothole or rut, the bung being more rigid may have passed the stress to the chassis itself and damaged that instead.
My personal and witnessed experience of JHS crash bungs has been excellent, this differs from witnessed experiences of some other brands.

A couple of forum members have reported that JHS doens't supply the old ones any more... Which could explain why these ones don't measure up I suppose. Sid's right though, they've earned their good rep IMO- assuming that these are the same as the old ones.

I agree.
The JHS have a good rep from others. They have done me well in the past. But they don't make them any more (so James said) I personally think the tie bar should be longer. The fracture was in the thread, unsurprisingly. Refitting them I noticed that each bung was about half way the thread on both sides You know how it is with biking - you have to earn your wings (even decades later!). I will always replace or at least double check bungs after going down in future. |
