That is interesting, as my K3 tank (after 19,000 miles) has quite a few rust spots on it, and a rubbed crotch area, whereas my old 6 year old ER5 with 39,000 miles was still fine! I was secretly wondering if the paint was **** in sv650s cos it seems to be on mine...

Default re

bought some clear motrax sheet & cut it up and stuck where coat / legs rub on tank .
As a lot of people say here the paint is very thin & poor quality , does seem like it not lacquered .
good fun for a little bike though

end of the day u do get what u pay for .....

Cheers Steve

Mine doesn't have any rust on it but it is a little dull in places after about 14000 miles.

Well after doing a whopping 1200 miles my tank looks worse than my old Zephyr did at 34'000. All I wear is a waterproof jacket, no button poppers or zips to scracth it either. Now I know why SV's are cheap, they really do skimp on materials. You get what you pay for I guess. Anyone know where I can get a Baglux tank cover for a K5? Everywhere I look they only go upto the 2000 model SV650. Grrr.
