Coming from someone who's no longer under a monarchy, and a completely outsider to both British and Spanish monarchies, I must agree with PH about the "human" image both transmit... From this side of the TV set, the British Royal family appear as pretending to be untouchable (hence the scandal after scandal, IMHO... when you're so high up above, everything can be a scandal), while the Spanish Royal family look just like that... a family. They still are the rulers, but their people loves them for who they are, not for what they're supposed to be.

Sorry if I've offended, it's just my personal view on the matter, and a distant one, only seen through a TV set.

I think the trouble with our Royals is that they are stuck in a time warp, they need to get out & about more & get up to speed with us being in the 21st century, ok so they probably can't go down to McDonalds in a chav'd up Saxo for a bit of a chit chat & bling show with the locals but they could try to leave a lot of the untouchable, prim & propper, plum in mouth stuff behind & move forward a bit.
Whenever you see the queen she always looks like she has a broomstick up her backside & never looks comfortable be it at a show or watching the football, she really needs to learn to chill out, maybe she should join SV650.ORG.

Apparently, she looks "broomed" since she has been sitting on a foam SV seat for hours pulling wheelies around Hyde park. That probably accounts for her stiff looking posture and apparent boredom whilst watching sporting events. She is rather partial to hoss racing.

The real problem is image. She isn't anything like her portrayed image. And, dare I say it, she was quite a looker in her younger days......

I really want to be patriotic and like the Royals, but our Royal Family is a bit pants TBH.

You've got mad Phil who insults foriegners and shoots everything (quite entertaining but lets face it, hes a nob)

Prince Charles who once insisted on landing his Royal Jet, which he did downwind and ran off the end of the runway.

Prince "Its a knockout" Andrew

William doesn't seem bad and he has a bike. (although thats no gaurantee of not being a prat)

I met Prince Charles once. He looks taller on the telly.

Apart from being a magnet to "snap happy japs" (as they are affectionately called here in York when they invade us each summer) what purpose does the monachy serve in todays society? How would their disbandment, affect me?

It wouldnt. Id still pay my taxes, still go to work, still be banned from driving etc.. nothing would change. Only we wouldnt have to read about them every other day after some "other" scandle has broken out.
