Sure but everybody else has the same capacity limit. So all the things that may benefit a triple engine will do the same with the V4 and V5 crowd.
One thing I just thought of, is that if it's a V3. I wouldn't have a previous engine to weigh it against.
Food for thought, but on road bikes it's pretty much a given that less cylinder engines need more cubes to produce the same power as a 4 cylinder.
I guess that's why Triumph launched their 675 pitched against the 600cc IL4s.

The boxer cup bikes from a couple of years back had carbon fibre cylinder head guards. They were still grinding the heads on the tarmac even despite this at Donnington

Well the Aprillia was never short of power - could have got it to work if it wasnt so vicious. And remember, this is an 800cc engine, not the 990cc engine.
