Thank you for you info Jambo, this did happen to mine at the end of last year, and did what you just suggest then, It's not the lever, as that was the first thing I checked when I go home.
cheers again.

Rich, did you take the change shaft out and examine the claws and pins? I can't see anything amiss in the pictures, but I'd certainly look there, and when it was off I'd see if the gears could be selected by manually turning the drum, whilst turning the rear wheel.

I didn't take it apart but examined the pins and claw, it is usual for the claw to skip over the pins when you select a gear isn't it ? yes thats why the return spring on the shaft is for.... ( just talking out loud to myself) , and yes whilst turning the rear wheel thats when I heard a click and got all the gears back.....
Still don't know what was amiss, any ideas.? any how wait to get a new gasket before rebuild..

and also rubbing down my cover to get resprayed in high temp silver paint.

Default You should have read this first

What you are describing could probably have been remedied by reading the linked thread.

it was the Claw & pins I suspect, as soon as I took off the clutch cage the claw clicked backinto place.

Groooooovy Baby!

Pleased it's sorted and all working

Andy: What you describe rarely frees up this problem, I've seen this a number of times and there's sometimes a fix by simply wiggling the lever vigorously, usually it's necessary to get in there though. I suspect the problem is that the parts are stamped and often a bit rough and sharp edged, that and the claw pivots aren't a perfect fit.
