But if you gave up the other, you'd be out on your bike, see loads of (insert appropriate gender here) and be thinking 'I could be with her/him etc' and get resentful - and there's a lot more of them than there is bikes!!

Andy, this is true. So if you park short-term hurt, surely you'd find someone with a more tolerant attitude?
