My riding style means I'll probably never have to buy rear brake pads

As I'm slowing down, I normally use the front brake & go down the gears letting the clutch out at each gear. That's probably the reason I don't see the gear change problem.

This is obviously unles I'm hooning it, but still.

Law, it's no big deal (as I'm sure you know) so I'm not really that fussed if it doesn't solve it, I was just figuring fresh oil might help.

I get this too on my bike which has about 3000 miles on it (both problems)

Stopped at the lights it won't change down, as the guys say let the clutch out a little till it bites then pull it in and change down as normal.

Also sitting in neutral trying to put it into 1st, I let the clutch out fully then pull it in again and it shifts into 1st.

As said above it's probably just the gearbox wearing in. It doesn't seem to happen as much now as it used to, but I also change my oil halfway between services which I believe helps. Good clean oil is always a good thing.

I find if you come to a stop in 1st, and then pop up into neutral, it will go back into 1st, if you get into neutral and then coast for a bit, it won't always go back into 1st without some persuasion.

It's not a problem - it's how constant mesh gearboxes work. Look inside one and it will be obvious why.

Change down as you slow down, less wear on everything, more understanding of your bike.
