Had the same problem near the hinge, I wouldn't bother trying to fill the leak if it's substantial. My advice is find a bike breakers... i bought my tank from cheshire slavage http://www.cheshiremotorcyclesalvage...uperbikes1.htm Cost me 80 quid including P&P

Looks like it's all done and dusted now.

Main source was from the feed pipe, the clip for which had come loose. Investigation of this resulted in the tank coming off and the favourite hinge point seepage also being evident. This wouldn't be enough to be noticable with regular use, since the heat from the engine would help it evaporate, but sitting around, it would build up.

With the tank off, "Petro Patch" Putty was mixed and applied around the hinge plate, and for a "belt & braces" approach, a standard "Petro Patch" kit was used on top.

Once refitted and run for a while, the bike ('99) is showing no signs of leakage. Job done (I hope). Nice one.

Cheers,

Garry

Famous last words yet again. After looking good, the leak made itself known again, so it was off with the tank again this morning. Very obvious where the fluid (including the water) was exiting - at the one part of the hinge plate that we didn't patch over. Looking inside the drained tank, the surface looks pretty good really so it may be that one of the spot welds has created a little weakness. Patching of this area is now well under way and this time we'll stand the tank up with fuel in it to test the repair before refitting.

Fingers crossed again......

Cheers,

Garry

Well it seems to have worked as Dad's not blown the shed up yet so there can't be that many fumes in there!!

AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGggghhh!

It's STILL at it - just the tiniest seep though - and the pinhole is visible. Belt and braces technique again - putty (loads) and then a regular patch over that. It's gonna be a slow bike with all the extra weight!

Cheers,

Garry

If that was mine, I'd call it a bad deal and get a replacement... Pinholing's one thing but a liner treatment like Petseal should fix that easily. Failing welds, well, you can fix it but you can't remove the cause, just the symptoms. You're going to have an awful lot of patch, and that stuff can be vulnerable to vibrations...

Still welcome to my spare to get it sorted in the meantime while you sort it out... Doesn't look too good but it's not got any extra holes in! I'll not need it again for a few months at least.
