Not sure about the seat unit fitting off a 1000 K5 but a K3/4 will. As for the fairing it should fit as the lightweight ones sarah sells are the same as a normal OE one just lighter obviously.

Weigh up what you want out of the bike, I'm no racer and the above replies are all from people who do actually race. However, if you're in it just for fun perhaps a custom seat subframe and plastics might not be worth it. I'd imagine you can always make changes through the season, so change the things that are holding you back as they become an issue. I'd imagine whatever budget you do have would be best thrown at tyres and suspension at first though changing the plastics will probably not cost you much once you've sold the stock ones off the bike.

Edit: to clarify the above the stock front fairing has headlights, mirrors, indicators and the plastics themselves, all of which sell for a fair bit, so an aftermarket fairing may well be worth it. Just don't get sucked into the thought that you have to change everything before you start!

I'm confused, why wouldn't you use James?

He's not a million miles away from you and he knows just a lot about the series (he helped start it!!).

Odd.

If the JHS stuff is all he could find that was specific for the SV pehaps he thought that was all thats avaliable or that you're allowed to use. If you are on a very tight budget then having to pay full price for something that is in theory avaliable for alot less, be it second hand or just from a competitor, is a good thing.

Yep, the message wasn't "I don't want to use JHS", it was "are there alternatives".

Please dont misunderstand, I am well aware what JHS has done for the series and he is only a short distance away, trouble is for me on a small budget and inexperienced racer who WILL have spills i wanted to know what other options there are for fairings.

For instance the K5 Fairing and K4 seat unit means if I have a spill it wont be as much to replace as they are more readily available hence cheaper...

Hope that clears it up.

Does it have to be faired?

I'm looking at either doing the Mini Twins of the Sound of Thunder, James is going to prep my 1000 anyway so we'll see.

Also, have you got your racing license sorted and if so....how?
