My bills were getting high and when British Gas starting putting my bills up even though I was in credit on my account I got fedup and Liz found a website called. www.uswitch.com typed in all my details, and saved myself some money by switching to Scottish Power.

Try it you might save some money to.

3 bed semi and we pay

about £350 per year gas and £400 elec

combi boiler about 7-8 years old, double glazing all round and plenty of loft insulation

we do run 2 servers 24x7 though

Just paid a gas bill of £376, no mistakes, meter read recently etc.

I live in an old house, Sash Windows (no double glazing) solid walls & no central heating, gas and lecky £1100 per year at present althrough were getting a 17% reduction soon from them kind people at British gas.

both of my suppliers have been doing more than generous overestimates of our usage, and building up some nice reserves of my money (from monthly DDs) in their bank accounts. To the tune of c. £100 each for gas & electric in fact - and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if they're doing that to everyone they're making a nice bit of interest!

I switched to dual fuel last year after resisting it for a long time because I knew it would be grief................and it was

Having eventually sorted the accounts out, Grittish Bass (who despite the bad press were actually almost the cheapest for me, don't believe the propaganda) wanted to double my elect monthly DD though it was in credit. Sorted that, leave it alone please.

Then a couple of months later they wanted to treble it. First woman in the call centre said there was nothing they could do, fait accompli. I hung up, called back, got a Scottish lad who said "No problem, doesn't need to change does it, I'll put it back how it was". Don't take no for an answer.

Now I've had an (on-line account management) estimated elect bill which was a bit high, so I put in a customer reading which was 220kWh less than the estimate. Their system seems not to be able to cope with this, so since the meter goes up to 100,000 it decided I must have used 99,780units. I'm still waiting to see what happens with the billing.

The word on the street is to leave switching for about six weeks or so.

If you switch now British Gas will be cheapest but that's because they have just become the first to cut their prices in a new price war following cuts in wholesale prices. They only did so earlier this week.

The others are sure to follow suit and BG will almost certainly end up being the most expensive again.

I switched mid December, the final straw was a letter saying that they were increasing my monthly direct debit again, when I was already £60 in credit on my account, based on real meter readings not estimated.

TBH I just had enough of them increasing my monthly direct debit payments, with no explanation especially when my account was in credit by so much.
