I'd assumed Steve Jordan's would have set this one up... But no shop can give you a perfect setup over the phone. Ktech did a good job with mine but everyone's different, so they can't please everyone.

I got my Ohlins whacked up full and with dog bones, can't remeber the settings though. I agree with northy about the flighty front end with the GSXR front aswell, i kept the 60 on the front which make it even shorter but put a steering damper on JIC

Checked the comp damping setting, it is indeed as I said. Couldn't be arsed to check the rebound, biek was rammed in the garage, so assume it's also correct.

Turn-in is indeed quick, but the main benefit of the steeper head angle is mid-corner and on the exit, where it makes it very easy to change lines, keep it under control etc. as you don't need to haul on the bars. My riding style only really needs slow turning in cos I'm more used to old bits of crap than GSXRs.

Any shock or pair of forks needs settign up to suit your preferences and weight etc. My mate has an SV700 and he rides it like a motocrosser, so he wants it to feel differently than I do. Anyone's settings (inc. mine) are a guide or starting point only. Tyres play a part, as do various other things.

You can't just copy across settings and expect them to be right, or even close.

Why not? Because of manufacturing differences, and age differences between units. Most motorcycle shocks are brown bread by 20K miles (if not before). For example, the Gixxer 1000 shock I have on my bike needs about an extra click of compression damping for every 1000 miles travelled, and about an extra click of rebound damping for every 3000 miles travelled. There is no way I could ask for someone elses settings and expect them to be at all meaningful without a mileage comparison and adjustment (not to mention an adjustment for weight of rider and riding style)...

BTW, how does the Ohlins unit compare to your previous unit?

The Ohlins is ok ... can't get overly excited ... the ZX6 shock was pretty good to be honest ... the biggest benefit is the 'raise' the ohlins gives and hence the positive effects on the geometry ... It'd be interesting to do a straight back-to-back comparison, but both shocks are up to the job ... I wouldn't advise the spend on an Ohlins over a 636 unless you are pretty serious about what you are doing ... I do intend to race mine, so could just about justify the race shock ... but I was more than happy with the performance of the 636 for trackday ... and have put it in my spare bike

Stretching it a bit there.

Not tried the 636 but the Ohlins is a massive improvement over stock.

Agreed, generally.
