Looking good, that... Carb synching is just part of the regular servicing... Do you know when it was last serviced?

Hmm. Was that professional, or by an owner? What I'd be looking for myself is a proof of a full dealer service, in your position- without that, I'd probably start with getting it at least looked at by a pro or experienced amateur, if you've got friends who ride. There's all sorts of simple maintenance things that can cause bad economy, and to be fair to you it's expecting a bit much for you to figure it out.
DO you fancy learning to service it yourself, or is that not your thing?

Yeah, it's a lot to take on, I learned on a knackered 125 because I had pretty little choice, it would have cost more than it was worth to get the pros to fix it. Starting servicing from scratch on a good bike would have been harder to do. Start small and work up, is usualyl the way, and troubleshooting stuff like this isn't really starting small.
Hum. Well, I'm wondering about the past service history- do you have any record of when it got its last full service? Oil change is just a small part of it. If not, then I'd be tempted to get it done just on general principles- it's good to start with a clean slate like that with a new bike, if you've any doubts at all. But obviously, it all costs money. It looks great btw ![]()

It depends on the mileage etc- do you have a manual? The SV service manual is available for download from this site, it's maybe a bit advanced for you as it's really designed for professional use, but it does have a ton of information in it. The Haynes manual is good too.
