ahhh right, if thats you in the pic u looked bit older lol. I mean i'm 18 too and i'm a big lad, and TBH i think if i stepped on a 125cc i wouldn't be able to keep it up. The SV is a good bike mate, i have a curvey, haven't touched a pointy but a couple of months back i was in 2 minds whether to get one.

lol yeah people say i look older - all the smoking and facial hair lol

im a big lad too, but then it hasnt really effected the 50, gets me from a-b and at top end too lol ... well it did! lol

i do like the SV, but im 1 for the aggressive lookin bike which is why i prefer the pointy over the curved. and same with the Gixxers - prefer the 2001+ models over the SRAD lol and the RS50/125 etc... u get the point...

dont get me wrong the SV will be the better option in the long run, but its not the bike i would choose from first look, but the more i look at the pointy 1 the more i want it lol

Well even though i think it is a pathetic idea, the new GSX-R's are being fitted with a restrictor kit for free when you buy them from Suzuki. Just if you have the money to get one brand new.

I've ridden both and between me and my other half we own both.

Personally if you can afford buy the pointy, Its IMHO a slighty nicer bike to ride. But theres not much in it.

If your tall or have long legs, go for the K3 as they have a higher seat height than the K4 onwards bikes do.

the gixxer idea is pointless because i have to buy it from new ... which cost loads! even though id love to do but the insurance is ridiculous!

id much prefer the pointy sv.

The advice i usually give to people after an SV second hand is to find a good curvy for circa £1500. That or buy a new pointy for £4k. IMO its not worth paying £3k+ for a used pointy when a grand more will get you a new one.

I would imagine that a good nick pointy would be over £2.5k and again IMO thats getting near the realms of where it may be worth to buy new. Price difference will also be reduced through insurance offers/warranty/no need to MOT etc.

Personally i dont see a whole lot of difference between the curvy/pointy...IMHO curvy got the colours right and pointy probably shades on looks.

The SV in either form makes a great first big bike, especially so if on a restricted license. As you are 18 it may have to be a case of accepting that you are not getting the bike of your dreams(gixxer)...but the SV is certailny not a shoddy alternative....far better than any 125. You also said you are a smoker....perhaps if you gave up you would be able to afford a GSXR

However back-tracking entirely if its a GSXR you really want then it may not be as unaffordable as you think....although it will be ****e restricted. For the price of a K6 SV, i expect you could pick a reasonable example up. If you dont know bikes then do your best not to buy a ****ter. Unfortunately the GSXR also is a thieves favourite so TP insurance probably wouldn't do it.

At the end of the day if you are determined to get a GSXR and its the bike you want then go for it....if you want it bad enough you can earn/save the £. Or you could do what Nick did and buy a nice pointy...spend a few hundred £'s on improving it then swap it after a few weeks for a CBR
