I might as well try ... if you currently own one, can I have a go (on a bin it buy it understanding obviously)?!!? I have any bike insurance, sot its all legit!!
Never owned either, but I've ridden a few examples of both. Now I'm a dyed in the wool RD fan, having owned every configuration of 250, 350 and 400 made, but I never had any urge to buy an RD500 YPVS. However, if the chance ever came for me to own an RG500 gamma, then I would take the bloke's arm off.

For me the Gamma is the much better bike - it feels lighter, stronger engine, easier to flick into corners and has better brakes. the RD is ponderous yet flighty for what feels like a heavier bike, just doesn't deliver its power in the same evil way, has an 18 inch rear wheel and piddly brakes. They aren't too hot on reliability either compared to the Suzuki. I know that strokers are never reliable, but the Gamma is the better one of the two, and easier to work on as well.

What's the biggest stroker ever put in a mass produced modern(ish) motorcycle?

Put yer 'RD 350' sidepanel stickers on straight and level - yours slope downwards to the front.

That is lovely, I've owned a few of those.

Kawasaki did a 750 (H2? H3?) but that was back in the '70's I think. It was a bit much for the chassis according to what I've read.

Biggest modern ones are the 500GP reps but they're getting on a bit now.

Aprilia need to ressurect the Direct Injection stuff they were developing a make either a 500 or even litre stroker. Mmmmm...

Yes, a 'kettle'

Anyway, back to the GP500 type bikes, its the 80s retro 4 cylinder 2-smoke that does it for me ... teh engine note ... the smoke ... the 4 pipes

By modern standards they would be a p00o ride ... but that (like owning a kettle) isn't the point ...

Nice example of an 350, I can appreciate that as I have had a few of that range ... I've had a YR5, RD250B and an RD250LC ... but it's not the same avenue as the late 80s 500GP bikes

There is a bloke called Allen Millyard who builds some wierd and wonderfull machines.
He stuck 2 Kwak KH250 engines together and then didi the same with the 750 H2, so it was a 5 cylinder 1300cc beast.

This is how he built them http://www.saltmine.org.uk/kgb/mechshow.html

and this is how they sounded http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/graham_c/Movie/kawa.shtml

He also built these "little" beasts.
