It saves in two formates .asf and .avi

Example .asf

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/191...P0005-ASF.html

Example .avi (I am obviously aware that vidio works here, but there is still a problem with sound/codecs)

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/191...P0006-AVI.html

REMEMBER I want this to work with Windows Media Player AND Windows Movie Maker WITHOUT any pre-prcessing ... I just need whatever codecs windows is complaining about ...

OK, Blue, codec's supported on my machine. Have you got AVICodec? If not, it's here. Install it, and it'll run on your machine.

Once it's running, hit "Select" and find your video. It'll take a second or so, but it analyzes your file. Once it's done, look at the boxes at the bottom of the window.

The first box (File), on mine says 5.25MB, 0:00:25, AVI, 1 audio stream with quality 78%. I've abreviated bits BTW.

The second box (Video), says, 4.85MB, 30.26fps, 640x480, XVID Mpeg-4 Supported.

The third box (Audio - the important one), says, 393KB, 128Kbps, 16khz, 2 channel, IMA ADPCM, Supported.

If yours says supported in that thrid box, then for some reason the editing/playing programs you're using haven't picked up the codec change.

Is IMA ADPCM definitely supported on your computer?

I'd need to fiddle with my home machine ... but I did 'add hardware' and point at the IMA ADPCM and it now appears in the list ... but no joy ...

The files don't work here at work (on 3 machines) or on my other machine at home ... so it's not just my laptop (that I was using at the time) is configured incorrectly ...

I’ll d/l and run that utility ...

Ok, run the AVIcodec software, here at work, I get the same as you in 1st 2nd and 3rd boxes

In 'Codecs & Filters' tab, I get Microsoft IAM ADPCM state as 'enabled', but no filename (the rest in the list have an associated file).

I also have Microsoft ADPCM enabled, and pointing at msadp32.acm

Version 4.0.0? (Filters & Codecs display, Audio codec selected).

I'll see if I can play it in Windows Media Player.

Scratch that, I have Windows Movie Maker installed here too. Didn't know that.

I tried to open in WMM, which refused because of codecs. Then I clicked Tools > Options. Look in the Compatability Tab. I had "ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder" version 1.0.2.1997 present, but disabled. I enabled this, and tried to reimport.

BINGO. Imported fine. Plays fine, audio & all.
