Have you got a spanner big enough for the top yoke nut ?

If you didn't want it off you could struggle working underneath the yoke?

Remember the head bearings are all held together by the nut under the yoke, so you're not messing with that. You can't really get it wrong, though I'd always unweight the front as it makes it easier to put the yoke back on- the forks can move just a little with the top yoke off.

I had written out a reply saying that the top yoke removal wouldn;'t do anything wit the bottom yoke still in place, then I couldn't remember how the bearings wer under the top yoke nut, so deleted it all. Glad someone knows what they're talking about.
