[quote=rubberduckofdeath;1242726]C# is a good language, programming snobs..

Nah, it is crappy microsoft rubbish. Give me Java anyday. Yes I have coded in C# for about 18months. and Java for about 8. For functionality, portability and supportability, Java wins every time. OK for raw power I will use c every time. c++ is too cumbersome remembering to have destructor methods etc. so no wonder memory leaks happen. At least in old fashioned c you actually think about your memory constructs and utilisation

Then give me a operating system to run it on with decent functionality, true multi user multi tasking. in other word *nix. Or even good old fashioned operating systems like VMS or OS9. Microsoft has yet to work out what an OS is.

Yes I am a snob. Been cutting code since 1978 when I started off using APL, and gone through Basic,Fortran, Pascal, C, C++. Java and C#, plus 6502, 6808, 68000, VAX assembly languages.

And no I don't want job. I have made a career out of avoiding work, and justifying my salary for the occasional blinders I pull when others get the company in the poo

So, I think C sharp is a great language. So did some reasonably serious computer scientists from my old uni, I even wrote my thesis project with it, on the .NET platform.

Which is also a good idea, it's basically just an extension of the JRE, except now you can compile any lang into that same bytecode. You can write your UIs in VB.net your logic in C or whatever. All very nice.

It is just a shame that MS own it.

MS have some great tools, some great developing environments, and debuggers, VB.net and C# do exactly what they say on the tin, no arguments.
They just can't design an OS to save their lives. And they are d1cks about business.

So, now I use Linux, and perl, and C because the people who run these projects are not total d1cks, allowing us to develop the way we want to.
Mono, the FOSS version of .NET, should be good though. And there are open compilers now for C# too...

edit (much as I dislike MS, it sort of irritates me the way some people dismiss all their ideas out of hand, ie people slagging SOAP when strongly linked with MS and then suddenly investigating it later when it was not linked)

edit edit... when I say MS's ideas, I really mean the ideas that they buy... ahem.

Having said all that, a few years back I would have jumped at a position like this. Now, I suppose, not so much.
