I think with the competition coming from the Aprilia and everyone upping the capacity (as happened with cars) due to emissions laws sapping power I think it would make sense to ditch the thou and move the 650 up to 750 or 800.

However from an insurance, consumption and pyschological point of view the larger capacity may deter a large percentage of their typical customers.

Slightly brushing aside from that i think restriction laws should be worked out by mileage. I think all new riders should do a certain mileage on some sort of restricted bike for so many miles - Like 10,000 or something.

Nice idea, better than the current measurement of number of years (two is it?) 'cos you could pass your test then not ride a bike for two years. But how do you measure it or prove it? Even with a GPS tracking unit on the bike you can't prove it's the newbie thats riding it for all those miles

Suppose your right there, there isnt a way to do anything like that really. I suppose ROSPA trainers may be able to tell etc. I myself think I am ready for a de-restricted bike havin g covered at least 12k now since i have passed my test

I was just at my local Suzuki dealer in the states and he had a book with the new 2008 bikes in it. The SV650 one surprising thing, the sv650S is no longer half faired. It had a full fairing! everything else looked pretty much the same on paper. They had no pricing. If its the same price with the fairing, Im in....

How about a 140Kg SV. Can that be done economically? I don't care if it needs to be 800cc or 400cc. With today's speed laws we need a light fun bike for the weekends basically. I'm having a blast with my second bike a 125cc supermoto, the lightness of the thing makes you very confident to try out new things and the low power is sometimes a good thing as you really enjoy working hard to get as much from the bike as possible.

According to Cupar M/Cs there is a massive glut of SVs due to over production/over estimation of the market. The dealers are being told the sv in its current guise will be on sale for quite a while yet. They're enhancing things by offering more etxtras such as full fairings etc.

I hope not, not without releasing another v-twin in the line-up!
