Don't use your own bike to learn on! Use one of the bike school's ones, then when you drop it you don't need to worry.

I didn't even drive when I learnt... Loads of shorter bikes than SVs out there - lighter ones too but shorter bikes will feel lighter anyway - if that makes sense....
