Talking about a scottoiler, consider fitting the touring tank or lube-tube. I did a 2600 mile trip this summer with a lube tube and it needed filling one time. Scottoiler sell them complete with neat little 100ML(?) bottles of oil. I took one of them with me, sealed and clean. Filled the lube tube from that when it was empty, what was left in the lube and normal RMC lasted the whole trip. The touring tank will completely dispense with the need to carry chain loob.
Are you planning on camping or B&B? Makes a big difference to planning your luggage and packing. |

![]() Generally anything around the 6-7ft should be enough to snare most French/German people, but if you venture into North-Northern Europe where they have big burly Scandinavians and the like, I wouldn't use anything shorter than 8-10 feet. Of course, I personally prefer the longbow to a spear - just clips to the back of the bike quite nicely, and you don't have to worry about braking too hard and it flying forward! HTH. |

Was it not 3 this time? Thought I saw three on Sunday night. I liked LWR, but it has to be said, taking so much support kind of defeats the purpose of MOTORBIKE touring.
Fair enough they're making a TV programme so one vehicle carrying the crew and associated luggage, tents, etc and another to carry all the camera equipment, but 3 trucks? |

So apart from spears, should I take a spare chain?
Has anyone done a long trip on their own, what problems could I expect? |

make sure you have breakdown cover
My bike blew up once and I was given a spare for the whole trip and then flown out to pick up my bike after the repairs |

Generally don't set yourself massive targets for distance to cover and be prepared to compromise if you get tired before reaching your goal. Make sure you get plenty to drink, you should need a pee every petrol stop. Don't spend to whole trip on motorways, get out on the two lane roads and enjoy the trip. You see more, enjoy the trip and it keeps your interest / concentration up. |
