VFR forks back together and refitted. Test ride felt much better and it's no longer needing full preload to stop bottoming out. New springs and oil seem to have done the trick. It's still not feeling as stable as my previous one though and something didn't seem right. I hadn't given the tyres much thought as they have plenty of tread left, but checked today and the dates on them are 2012 and 2013. So that might explain why they feel terrible. Like riding on hard plastic with no confidence in the grip.

Not really tinkering on purpose, but using the VFR to get some supplies (and failing) and got a puncture on the way. Or thought I had. I now think it was already there and (along with a split in the valve, hidden away at the back) was very gradually leaking air and leaving the rear tyre under pressured. I've been trying to work out why I keep sorting the handling on it with preload etc and it feels great, then keeps going bad every time. I've now realised it handles great just after I check and inflate tyres. Other times I've ridden it and the steering and general feel has been totally wrong. Now I think back, when I got it I remember noticing the previous owner had been riding with very low pressure in the rear tyre.

In a way, good to know where the mystery handling problems have been coming from and it can actually work as well as the previous one I had. I'd even got to the poing on a couple of test rides where I'd thought about selling it. Glad I didn't.

So, a reminder to check your valve stems and tyres for small leaks and check your tyre pressures often.

My local tyre dealer changes my valve every time I buy a new tyre. They're cheap enough. Glad you found the problem though.

Not bike related, but fixed my Mum's car.

Since the VAG "dieselgate" and the updated software on the cars, the EGR gets used more than it was originally designed for . . . . So it causes issues in the EGR system and the DPF too. Thankfully it was only the EGR solenoid that had gone - cheap & easy to replace thankfully.
Unlike the EGR valve. Which they decided to locate on the back of the engine, and incorporate the cooler into it. It's a circa 5-6 hour job to replace and the part is around £400. So total cost is about £1k to replace at a garage.

Just bought a pair of Accassato 4cm raised clipons, so looking forward to fitting those along with new braided lines, stainless radiator guard, oil/ filter, plugs, air filter, bar ends, night breakers bulbs. Going to be busy ... as soon as I get some decent weather!

Pity manufacturers can't give more consideration to access for maintenance of components.

It is frustrating, especially for components which will need replacing during a cars life time. Or will at least need removing to clean/diagnose issues.

Fitted some crash bars to the bike - mainly so i can move my auxiliary lights over, and they look better & are more functional than the frame sliders i had on previously

Got my SV650 through it's MOT this week with a couple of small advisories one of which was a tired gear lever/play. This prompted me to do something I've been meaning to to for a long while now e.g fit a foldable one,

Note: Thread on adjuster arm next to lever is, "Left-Handed".
