Anyway, photos of what we got up to today. Well some of it, the pain in my shoulder when I was done was so bad that I needed a thirty minute massage form the wife. I was topless, she is a redhead... ![]() ![]() ![]()

I got dirty again this morning. However the bike is now back together, the back end has been serviced and it is now ready for the front end swap.
![]() Work today was to modify the battery box to make space for the remote reservoir, fit a new rear brake line, refit the exhaust and then go for a test ride. Despite being in lots of pain from yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I love working on my bike. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When it came to making the new brake line, I had a small accident, the olive that seals the end of the pipe slipped from my butter fingers and landed in the open end of the exhaust, where it tumbled down inside and out of view! Bereft and cross with my self, I let out the most obscene swearing at high volume while our neighbours were wandering about. There is a reason why I am known as Sister Sweary in some circles! To get the olive out, I warned the wife to step back, held a thin rag over the end of the pipe and started her up! What a brutal and wonderful noise she made. The Olive hit the cloth like a bullet and pinged off into the road. Thankfully it was easy to see and I was able to finish my brake hose, including heat shrink covers in areas where the hose touches other parts of the bike. ![]() My bike is now back on the road, freshly taxed this afternoon and ready for a damn good clean and a wax. ![]() I should probably have cleaned it while it was in bits, but I was too busy having fun with tools and new bits to bother cleaning.

![]() I see your Lah de dah and I raise you a "Whatever! Here's my peehole!" ![]() ![]() Yes that is my Jasper! ![]() Quote:
![]() If any of you are in any doubt about the difference a good rear shock makes, talk to Dr YC and get one from him. Oh my non specified Deity, My bike used to feel nervous in corners, painful on bumpy roads and almost unrideable crossing the lawns for bike night. I had to adjust the preload on the spring very slightly, but the difference in performance is measurable in meter sticks! For example, 30MPH across a rutted field and a jump! Yes I jumped my bike! it was only a couple of inches, but both wheels left the earth and I thought I was going to die. ![]() The combination of a good shock, smooth bearings and a full back end service has made my bike feel tight, smooth and lush. Gone is that wallow in the corners, the uneasiness over the bumps. Quote:

First test ride after rebuild and with my garage helmet, the lid that I leave in the garage should the Police ever turn up while I am performing naked burnouts outside irritating neighbours houses... I will give them complaints about the noise of motorcycles after nine in the evening F***ing C***s!
![]() Anyway, this is I. ![]() Don't worry about the lack of safety gear, I only went two hundred meters and had to turn around! ![]() |

![]() Worries that I have are that after all of this work, it just wont work as a bike, or that the parts wont fit correctly. Although I am fairly sure that it will all be OK, but I wont know for sure until it is all bolted on. If my first ride on the finished bike is anything like my first ride on the new shock though, it will be amazing, although hopefully there wont be any more unplanned jumps over lumpy bumps in sandy fields! My bum hole left a bite mark in the seat pad! ![]() |

The standard mirrors on the pointy SVS are to be frank rather poor and since fitting my bar conversion at the start of this thread, they have become less mirror and more fly swatter. Today I removed them and put them in a box at the back of the garage.
Before fitting these. ![]() Good old GSF650S mirrors. The difference is amazing. I had forgotten how nice it is to be able to see behind oneself with just a simple glance with out having to lean over to the side and take one hand off the controls. I am really liking these ones. ![]() Following this I had to go for a test ride and since I have my lovely new shock, riding over the bumpy roads of Weston has felt like someone has ironed out all of the creases. So we went for a wander. ![]() I need more gnarly tyres! Does anyone make good on/off road tyres for the SV? Sadly though the ride did not do my bike much good and the weeping seal on the right hand fork leg is now a spurt that would have the Ewing family chasing me with a pick axe! ![]() I can report though, my bike is slowly becoming the V-Strom I should have bought back in 2007!
