I had a fuel injected Kawasaki VN900 Vulcan and some Briggs and Stratton stabiliser which I was considering putting in the petrol tank for winter storage, so I rang the Kawasaki technical department to get their opinion.
They said 'save it for the lawnmower ' !

I've used that stuff for years. Always started no problem after winter

Yes I have. It sounded very different to how I remember, which worried me, but then I might be over thinking it. It was in the garage too which amplifies the sounds. Possibly need to adjust the starter valves and idle now, but will test ride and see.

With ethanol ( AKA bug food ) in fuel these days the stabiliser is more important to stop acids forming in the fuel due to bacteria. The main problem is ethanol is hygroscopic and actively attracts water ( just like the alcohol based Ethylene Glycol in brake fluid ) but unlike brake fluid where the water dissolves in the Glycol and not allowed to pool, the water in fuel will dissolve in ethanol, not mix with fuel then sink and allow bugs to thrive.

Phase separation is the main problem with ethanol in petrol in rarely used road vehicles.

Keeping the tank full ( moisture comes from air above fuel ) can help, also adding a stabiliser earlier rather than later because once water has separated out it cannot be removed except by draining ( or maybe sucking fuel from bottom of fuel tank with a vacuum device like those dipstick hole oil change gizmos will get a lot of the water out ). https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-TP69.../dp/B000WZF74M

I have the one linked to and have used it for a lot of things, including sucking out front fork oil without removing forks...

They mention adding stabiliser at every fill up - is that really necessary ?!
Think I will contact Suzuki technical dept to see what they say.

i would only imagine stabiliser is needed if you're not moving or running the machine for months, and its being left dormant.
