Have been looking around the web and seen a couple of bikes. What are the thoughts on these two?

The Go Outdoors one is far better spec than the Saracen, even though the frame material is similar

The Go Outdoors one is almost the same spec as my Voodoo Hoodoo, but £200 cheaper. I'm quite happy with my Voodoo, so it would be fine.

Have a look at Halfords at Ransomes Europark if you've got time, they had some Voodoo's on offer, although I can't remember how much, or what size

people, I am in need of a new (to me) mtb. my current one is a Giant Box 2 with marzochi bomber forks and it is absolutely knackered. I'd like something similar, ie. with dual suspension etc and it needs to come with those pedals that you can clip your shoes into (I already have a pair and don't really want to buy a new pair as they aren't worn out by any stretch yet), they're a model made by specialized (I don't know if this makes a difference or not). my final requirements are that it be less than £400 so almost certainly second hand to get something half decent and it can't require too much maintenance as I know that I might maintain it to start with, but it won't be long before I just can't be bothered! (just trying being honest here).

I shall be having a search through ebay, but I thought I'd try and ask for some opinions as to what people think shall be half decent.

thanks in advance to all who try n help/give a suggestion or 2.

Carrera banshee x is a good one or any of the boardman FS series. The banshee was £600 new so if you can find one you should get a good deal, the boardmans ranged from 600 up to about 1200 so might be abit tricky I can vouch for the 2011 FS pro a friend owned one and i can vouch for its ability to handle red-black routes, good standard of frame with decent components.

Generally I would just keep my eye on gumtree, seen many a bargain on there. I recently picked up a specialized rockhopper which was basically brand new for half price. When I was looking I saw a lot of 600 quid plus bikes in what was described as good condition for well under 400.

Pedals I assume will be spd's or similar which you can buy on their own so don't only consider bikes which already have em on. Or take the pedals off your current bike?

yeh, I spose so, hadn't really thought about that! lol. main reason I say with spd's to fit mine is cos I've gotten used to riding them just with normal shoes on as well when going somewhere and needing a normal pair of shoes on.

Yeah I kinna wanna try that too as I do more distance. Be good to be clipped in for long rides but I cant be bothered with my cycling shoes for my 15 min commute. Got flat pedals at the mo but fancy these:

yep best of both worlds, but I really don't mind having really small pedals, I have gotten so used to it now that cycling on another bike that has larger ones really feels weird these days! lol

Pretty sure the thread pedals screw onto the crank is standard. So basically your pedals should fit on any bike unless they are really weird
