Well there's a couple of things I didn't know.

Threadloc on a stick, I need to get some of that! I've misplaced my bottle of it & its always a bit hit & miss with the liquid stuff to get it where i want it.

Soldering Iron tip, I didn't know that, cheers, although I vaguely remember reading threadlock forming a barrier to prevent galvanic corrosion

[QUOTE=However I am not a metallurgist and I do not know if a stainless bolt has the strength to support the force put through them of a 170 kilo bike carrying my colossal fat 'arris, braking from motorway speed because a little old lady has stepped off the pavement in front of me! QUOTE]

Jane from my limited experience I haven't seen many of the aforementioned old lady's crossing many motorways. And if you are doing motorway speeds where they do cross the road, then you really should be more concerned with the numpty's in their cages. I'd rather hit an old lady any day than one of them at 70 mph.

Closest I could find. Loving your thread.

Oh and if you want a stainless bolt make sure it's grade A4-80, 316 stainless steel - won't rust and 800 tensile strength.

The one I've got is Loctite. Halfords do them.

I've also got a copper grease stick. They're only little but last ages.

Good old Wemoto are offering the correct disk mounting bolts at an excellent price, so once I have some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket I shall be buying a big bag of them.

In the mean time, I have been stripping again...

This stuff is amazing, dab it on and leave it for half an hour, then sweep up the shavings. There is no pitting or damage to the metal underneath and what is left just needs a wash and then a light rub down to key for new paint. I am really happy with the results.

So after a wash and clean in warm soapy water I masked up the areas I do not want covered in paint when I respray the wheel. I have also blocked the threaded inserts and covered all of the bearings so I can spray it all safely and not damage anything.

Yes, that is a big pile of Technic Lego in the back ground, just because I am 42 this year does not mean that I cannot play with toys!

Looks like it needed a clean as there seems to be a small farm animal stuck in the spokes in that first picture

How about a bit of dry assembly, just to make sure that everything fits before I cover it all in paint and then have to grind it off again.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you this morning for your edification, a most shapely pair of legs...

As you can see it is all coming together nicely, the wheel is ready for spraying although fitting the disks means that I need to clean and shield the threads again. As for the bolts, my step son bought me a bag of them when he went to look at a big Yam V-twin today, some 900cc monster. He said it was his way of saying thank you for baby sitting for my Grandson. I could have cried I was so moved. I am blessed with my family here in Weston.

I have fitted the lower head race bearing to the stearer stem. This was a real swine of a job because I had to do it with a screw press and not a hydraulic one or slide hammer. However there is something very satisfying about watching a bearing slide slowly down an interference fit mounting. It kind of reminded me of late night channel four TV or a mating scene from an Attenborough nature program!

I have only one issue though and it is causing me some consternation. The left hand brake calliper currently rubs against the disk rotor. Now, I was told by Mr YC that I had to make sure that I put the custom wheel spacers in the right way around or something like this would occur. If I have not got this right, it will cause this rubbing. So I need to take it apart and check that I have the spacers on the correct sides. However, trying to do it at three in the morning while fighting back pain and insomnia is only going to lead to violence and a run in with my so far very understanding neighbours.

If in the unlikely event that I have got them the right way around, then the swap from the wider R1 Yokes to the narrower GSXR ones is responsible for this small interference. So it will be local machine shop on stand by for when I strip and reassemble this lot tomorrow to see if I have made a mistake.

My friend Sian still has my top yoke while she works on the milling machine in her bedroom, making spacers to fit into the webbing ready for drilling for my risers. She is a retired engineer who has made it a project to build various odd machines that she keeps in her bedroom. Most recently she was seen pulling apart her microwave to scavenge a part for one of her projects. When I mentioned that I needed to make up the plates, she asked if she could make them because she would love to make something for my bike. She is herself an ex biker and in her younger, fitter days rode a pointy S and then a Thou S, so she knows her way around an SV.

So there we are, once I know everything fits I can then start applying some paint.
Time to start praying for nice weather.

Jayne. you have more than likely drawn the leg over a bit when you put the axle in, the fork legs need to have the top yoke on as well and tightened up so the legs are straight. once you fit the forks to the bike properly and you install the front wheel you will need to bounce the front end up and down a few times to settle the legs into place and you then tighten the lower pinch bolts. this is also true for all bikes as if you dont then the axle can pull the fork leg over when you tighten it so you must bounce the front before you tighten the pinch bolts.
